At AVimmerse, we are passionate about using immersive technology to connect people with cultural heritage in innovative ways. Our recent work with Bradford City of Culture 2025 showcases how emerging technologies like 3D scanning, game engines, and virtual reality (VR) can transform the way communities interact with their history.
Empowering the Next Generation with Digital Heritage
As part of this initiative, we worked with students at Appleton Academy and Carlton Bolling School to introduce them to the future of 3D applications and game engines. The project consisted of interactive assemblies and hands-on workshops designed to:
Educate students about game engines and their role in creating immersive experiences.
Provide hands-on experience with 3D scanning, modelling, and VR applications.
Encourage cultural storytelling by allowing students to bring personal objects of cultural significance into a digital space.
The workshops enabled students to scan objects using Scaniverse, process the models in Blender, and integrate them into a virtual gallery using Unity. They also explored immersive VR experiences using Meta Quest headsets, gaining insights into how museums and cultural institutions can leverage these technologies.
A Virtual Museum for Cultural Storytelling
One of the key outcomes of this project is the creation of a virtual museum showcasing the scanned objects. This exhibition will serve as a digital archive of culturally significant items chosen by students, allowing visitors to explore these artefacts in an interactive 3D space.
This approach has exciting implications for museums and heritage organisations. By digitising cultural artefacts, institutions can:
Preserve delicate historical items in high-fidelity 3D.
Expand access to collections through virtual exhibitions.
Engage younger audiences with interactive storytelling.
Opportunities for Museums and Cultural Institutions
The Bradford project is a blueprint for how immersive technology can redefine museum experiences. Our expertise in game engines, 3D scanning, and VR applications makes it possible to bring cultural heritage to life in engaging and meaningful ways.
For museums, this approach presents an opportunity to:
Digitally archive historic artefacts and create virtual tours of exhibits.
Develop interactive educational experiences that connect visitors with heritage through VR.
Engage new audiences by blending traditional storytelling with emerging technologies.
